EA and Mr.White got some beef

Right now it's 10:17am eastern time and I woke up and check out kotaku and find that they have in interview posted with UFC big man Dana White. In the interview white spoke outright about his view of EA and it's upcoming UCF game.

I'm gonna give you some background here. So earlier this year THQ (another game company) came out with a UFC game that was met with much critical and commercial success. THQ a company on the verge of bankruptcy (at the time) was taking a HUGE gamble with this unproven IP; but it payed off in the end.

Now EA wants to get some in on some of that but Dana White will have none of it saying EA treated their sport dismissively about a year and a half ago.

In his own words:

"You're not a real sport. We wouldn't touch this thing. We want nothing to do with this."

So his response to the company now that UFC already has a successful game franchise is that if any of his fighters sign with EA on this they will be fired.

"I'm not tap-dancing around this thing or whatever..... I'm telling you straight-up, I'm at war with [EA] right now. That's how I look at it"

I gotta say I'm pretty happy that this guy's sticking it to EA, while I do like their FIFA game I'm not a fan of Madden or much else sports wise they put out. But seeing as how EA is currently a shadow of it's former self I do feel a little bad for it, they just want to make some money. [Kotaku]

GiantBomb: Endurance Run

Something I have been an enormous fan of in the time since it was started is the Endurance Run over at GiantBomb.com. It sounds like a stupid idea; two guys starting and playing a video game to completion all caught on video. But it's unintentionally hilarious. The video game in question is Persona 4. It's a wacky Japanese game that is kinda but not completely properly translated over into English. It's fairly entertaining and each episode is about 30min long and there's over 100 of them now. Crazy Dancing Guy

I got some friends over at WTFoodge.com and they had a post a little over a month ago about this guy dancing. Now this deserves some background. The concert where this guy is dancing is taking place at an amphitheater type arena and he's in the back right corner looking out from the stage.

The music was dubbed over the original because it was hard to hear.

Fight Night Round 4: Kitty Time

I recently purchased Fight Night Round 4 and I found that it wasn't as bad as some people make it out to be. The game is a great deal of fun and features some of the best facial deformation I have ever seen in a video game.

Something new to the game is the GameFace feature. The technology allows

you to upload two pictures of yourself (front and side) and have the game procedurally generate you in the game. It took me a little bit to get things going with the feature but it's pretty fun. The boxer of me that it created was fairly decent, it looked significantly better than I had thought. A user over on Kotaku decided to take this feature as far as possible by uploading pictures of his cat to create a boxer. I think it's pretty funny but you be the judge yourself. [Kotaku]

Klean Keyboard

I dunno about anyone out there but on my keyboard I have a huge problem with keeping everything nice and clean. Now, I wouldn't call myself a digusting slob (I actually would call myself more of a clean freak) but every now and then when I find my keyboard just feeling gross on my fingers. Ulysses final journey

So NASA being the ever clever people that they are decided today to send off their 18 year old Ulysses satalite orbiting the sun into deep space. It's been collecting data regarding some of the properties of the sun and their relation to us here on earth. Things like the suns magnetic pole strength and solar flares lead to communication and navagational disruptions here on earth.
I think it's pretty cool that NASA can actually recycle spacecraft for such uses. But it's gonna be a bit before it reaches our next closest star is Alpha Centauri, it's about 4.37 light years way or 41.5 trillion km away.

It's gonna be a bit before we hear from Ulysses again.

Starcraft II: No LAN support

So here's the inaugural Post for my blog. Here goes nothing.

One of the more important games to of come out within the last two decades is arguably Starcraft. Something unique about the game was it literally had one resolution, graphical setting, and because of that ran on just about anything (main reason why it became so big in Korea). The game also featured the most balanced Real Time Strategy (RTS) multiplayer ever conceived, the three factions played radically different but complemented each other rather well.

To me this game is still something I regularly go back to; holding LAN parties during the summer and winter breaks at my house with friends. Just this past weekend I held one. I found out today that the games sequel Starcraft II will not feature any LAN features.

Here's a quote from a Blizzard Representative:

"We don’t currently plan to support LAN play with StarCraft II, as we are building Battle.net to be the ideal destination for multiplayer gaming with StarCraft II and future Blizzard Entertainment games. While this was a difficult decision for us, we felt that moving away from LAN play and directing players to our upgraded Battle.net service was the best option to ensure a quality multiplayer experience with StarCraft II and safeguard against piracy."

I can understand their concerns, piracy is a big concerns about piracy but it seems to me a rushed decision. Call me old fashioned but I just love the feel of sleep deprivation, sweat, and doritoe flavored keyboards. LAN parties FTW!
